FirstOnSite Restoration is looking for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor in our Toronto branch.

Position Summary:

The Health and Safety Advisor will be reporting to the Director of Health and Safety and will provide direction and coaching to branch management and personnel on legislative compliance and reporting. They will direct the training of all employees in safety requirements and the implementation of new health and safety policies, procedures and related processes. They will manage and validate safety program initiatives across the region. In addition, the Health and Safety Advisor will regularly audit branches and ensure Health and Safety aspects of operations conform to company standards and legislation compliance.


  • Coordinate training for new Employees
  • Covering the Capitol Region, Eastern Ontario and Montreal areas
  • Develop new policies, procedures and training programs for legislative requirements
  • Maintain awareness of amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations, and make recommendations for their implementation.
  • Assist in the implementation of policies, procedures and training programs for all legislative requirements
  • Ensure training methods are consistent
  • Communication of Monthly metrics
  • Field audits (Jobsite Inspections)
  • Administrative audits (Safety Documentation/postings, Policies, Training Records, SJP/SWP)
  • Manage WSIB claims process for the region
  • Liaise with WSIB/WCB on all claims, including managing appeals where appropriate
  • Certificate of Recognition (COR) audit management and participation
  • Incident Investigation

Experience & Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years related experience and proven track record in safety ideally in the construction industry
  • Post-secondary Degree/Diploma/certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or diploma and or combination of Health and Safety education/training and relevant work experience.
  • Safety Certification (CRSP, CSP) or working towards designation is considered a strong asset.
  • Certificate of Recognition (COR) Audit
  • Commitment to professional development and continuing education
  • Detailed understanding of legal requirements with regards to health and safety in the workplace
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal legislation
  • Knowledge of Workers Compensation guidelines and return to work programs
  • Strong communication & presentation skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work as part of a team and demonstrated commitment to customer service excellence
  • Ability to communicate to senior level managers
  • Computer Proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point)
  • First Aid Certified
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
